The CME impacts from the last two days sparked a decent magnetic storm. The magnetometer has gone bananas! On Feb 20, at ~11:30 UTC it went off the scale – for first time in years.

The crochet sphere pattern calculator is getting some use…
Today my magnetometer recorded an unexpected magnetic storm (see magnetogram above). I’ve been expecting the storm about two days ago but when the time passed without any disturbance I thought it missed us.
This is the first time my home-made magnetometer records a crochet. A geomagnetic crochet is caused by the increased ionization of the ionosphere due to by the X-rays from the flare.
Somebody used my countown timer project to create UV exposure card:
Very nice work on the PCB!
Here is another video, showing the timer controlling a lamp:
Last night my DIY magnetometer recorded another very nice magnetic storm. The initial CME impact arrived just on schedule (as predicted by NASA), shortly before 2am UTC. You can also see the impact of a second CME front shortly after 4:30am UTC.

Recently I got a TI-89 Titanium graphing calculator and found out that writing programs for it is quite easy and fun. Here are some games I wrote for TI-89:
My new desktop wallpaper – updated from GPS tracks on Aug 10, 2013. Image generated using my Perl GPS scripts.
