Getting the air sampler built and collecting samples, it turned out, was the easy part. Figuring out what exactly is this or that pollen grain or scary looking appendage is hard. My wonderful wife got me a few books on pollen identification and now I know more about pollen than the average bumblebee. Still, most of the pollen grains remain a mystery. Even so, the joy of (tentatively) identifying a pollen grain is worth a few hours at the eyepiece. The images below are separated into several broad categories. All identifications are preliminary - I'm just starting to learn. Moving your mouse over an image will show you some information about it. Clicking will load the image in full resolution. If you recognize something that is mislabeled or is even placed in the wrong category, please let me know (my e-mail is at the bottom of this page). I'll make the necessary corrections ASAP.
